M4 - Chapter 1 Media Research

I collected  media items from around my house. I realised I had lots of old letters and postcards with lovely messages and script, faded and worn.

 

 

Newspaper and junk mail to stamps and tax discs to sticky notes and labels.

 

 

 

 Old postcards with faded messages from the past with old family documents of births, deaths and marriages.

Lettering Research

I found many different examples of lettering and particularly in old script it was interesting to find patterns and rhythms. Many positive and negative shapes could be found. Calligraphy, A Book of Contemporary Inspiration by Denise Lach shows many ways of using lettering to form pattern and designs.
